You must train the spam filter for 30 days before you will see results. The filter needs to have a good sample of messages before it can determine what is good mail and what is spam.

If you have initiated any sort of message filtering on your computer for spam, you need to remove it before training begins.

How to Train the Spam Filter

When you receive an email you consider to be spam, you must do the following:

  • Forward the email as an attachment and send it to yourself
Right click on the message or go the top menu bar under Message to select Forward as Attachment.
  • In the subject line, type [spam]
Make sure to use the hard shaped brackets, do not use the shift key and get {spam}. These brackets are found on your keyboard to the right of the letter "P".

How to Select More than One Message at a Time

Highlight all the emails you want to forward by holding the CTRL key on your keyboard and mouse click all the spams you have. Once they are highlighted, right click and select Forward as Attachments. Type your email in the to line and [spam] in the subject line and send.

How to Tell if Your Message Was Received

Once the email has successfully been sent to yourself, you will receive an email with the subject line of [Done]. Now, you can delete the spam messages you sent to yourself.
