How do I know if it's SPAM?
Spam as applied to email means Unsolicited Bulk Email (UBE).
- Unsolicited means the recipient has not granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Unsolicited email is normal email
(i.e. first contact inquiries, sales inquiries, etc.)
- Bulk means the message is sent as part of a larger collection of messages, all having substantively identical content. Bulk email is normal email
(i.e. subscriber newsletters, discussion lists, etc.).
- A message is spam only if it is both unsolicited and bulk.
Technical Definition of Spam: An electronic message is spam IF: (1) the recipient's personal identity and context are irrelevant because the message is equally applicable to many other potential recipients; AND (2) the recipient has not verifiably granted deliberate, explicit, and still-revocable permission for it to be sent; AND (3) the transmission and reception of the message appears to the recipient to give a disproportionate benefit to the sender.
Why do I have to send it to myself? In the message header of every email, a code is inserted by our mail server. This code tracks the characteristics of that individual mail for you. By sending the email to yourself, you are validating it's worthiness as SPAM or HAM.
What if you accidentally include a good email (ham) in the batch of 10 spams you just sent to yourself?
No problem! All you need to do is open that email, send it to yourself and in the subject line put [HAM] instead of [SPAM].
Do I have to send the good email to myself as ham?
You do not have to send the good mail to yourself as ham, only if you accidentally send it to yourself as spam. You need to re-educate the server that this email is okay. How many can I send at one time to myself?
You can send 100 or more at a time, however we recommend sending them in blocks of 50. As your computer is forwarding these emails as attachments, your internet connection could time out for one reason or another. If this happens, your email will error out and not be sent. We have no control over your internet connection and cannot help you in this situation. We can only recommend sending your spam's in smaller blocks. How do I send more than one at a time?
Highlight all the emails you want to forward by holding the CTRL key on your keyboard and mouse click all the spams you have. Once they are highlighted, right click and select Forward as Attachments. Then do the following:
-
Forward the email as an attachment and send it to yourself.
-
In the subject line, type [spam] Make sure to use the hard shaped brackets, do not use the shift key and get {spam}. These brackets are found on your keyboard to the right of the letter "P".
Does the training period have to be so long?
This is the recommended time frame to allow the server to obtain good and bad email. This training period will be crucial to receiving a proper balance of email in order to train the software. If you rank spam queen or king statis, you can contact us to adjust the timeframe. However, you need to be receiving an abundance of good email to balance out the bad for the training period. We would never go less than two weeks.
After my training period if I receive a spam, what do I do? You still follow the same routine as while in the training mode. More SPAMMERS are sending new SPAM from different servers everyday. It will be a constant battle, but you have the weapon to win the war.
Why do I still keep getting the sames messages?
The same spam about Viagra is not coming from the same source. The server reference will be different so you must train the software regarding this. Why do I have to train the software?
The spam filtering software available on the market was not doing an adequate job of delivering good and bad mail. Too many "false positives" could be generated and good email was being trashed before a user could read it.
By training the server, you are deciding what is spam and what is good. Your co-worker might want information on Viagra - who knows. Therefore, it's not up to us to arbitrarily reject any emails that contain the word Viagra. You may miss a really good joke about Viagra.
What if I get junk mail from a newsgroup I subscribe to?
First of all, we have to remind you that junk mail from a newsgroup you subscribe to does not qualify under the definition of spam. You have willingly subscribed to this newsgroup, but have managed to receive additional offers from that group. If you have the ability to change your preferences with this newsgroup, you may be able to sign off of additional offers from their affiliates or partners. If not, you'll have to decide if you want to unsubscribe to the group or live with a few pieces of junk mail that you can trash. Do not forward this mail as spam, it will also reject the good mail from this newsgroup. If that is your intent, you may forward it as spam, but I would recommend unsubscribing yourself since you know this is a valid place you originally requested information from.
When I get spam, it has an unsubscribe link with it. Why shouldn't I just ask to be removed from the list?
Unsubscribing from a spammers list is like trying to catch snowflakes in Jamaica in July. Impossible. All you are doing is validating your email address worked so they can now share it with the world and send you more spam. What is that code referenced back to me in the email?
1079087950.SYN2S2N4.eml
In the message header of every email is a code inserted by our mail server. This code tracks the characteristics of that individual mail for you. By sending the email to yourself, you are validating it's worthiness.
Does spam filtering cost me anything?
